Wilmer Flores vs. Derek Jeter

The world is getting to see what we’ve seen in Savannah for parts of three seasons.

Wilmer Flores has played in the field 453 times as a professional baseball player.

Every one of those games was played at shortstop where he has a lifetime fielding percentage of .959.

Derek Jeter played the same amount of games, 453, at shortstop in the minor leagues.

 His fielding percentage was .934.

Wilmer Flores has played four years in the minors, at the age of 16-19, and has hit: .280/.321/.394/.715.

Derek Jeter never played pro ball as a 16 or 17 year old.

He did play at 18 for the GCL Yankees (.202) and Greensboro (.243), and returned there as a 19 year old in 1993 (.295).

As a 19 year old, Wilmer Flores had 9-HRs and 81-RBIs in A+ ball.

Derek Jeter had 5-HRs and 71-RBIs in A ball.

Oh… Jose Reyes fielding percentage in the minors at SS was .958 and had 8-HRs and 62-RBIs as a 19-year old, split between A+/AA.

 Give the kid a break.
