BINGHAMTON METS 2012 GAME NOTES

Binghamton Mets (1-2) vs. Erie SeaWolves (1-2) RHP Greg Peavey (0-0, ---) vs. LHP Ramon Garcia (0-0, ---)

LAST GAME: The B-Mets avoided getting swept by the Akron Aeros with a 2-1 victory on Saturday afternoon at NYSEG Sta-dium. LHP Darin Gorski led the charge for Binghamton. In his Double-A debut, the southpaw racked up seven strike outs over six shutout innings. He allowed just one hit and faced one over the minimum. Erik Turgeon, Robert Carson and Josh Edgin locked things down out of the pen by allowing one run over the final three innings. Edgin induced Thomas Neal to bounce into a fielder’s choice to secure his first save and reward Gorski with his first win. The B-Mets grabbed the lead in the first off Akron starter Steven Wright. Matt den Dekker doubled to left-centerfield and came home two batters later on Allan Dykstra’s single up the middle. The B-Mets added another run in the seventh off reliever Rob Bryson. Jefry Marte tripled off the right field wall and scored on Oswaldo Navarro’s sac fly.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Greg Peavey (0-0, ---) will make his Double-A debut this evening. A sixth-round draft pick out of Oregon State University, Peavey is in just his second season of professional baseball. He split last season between the Savannah Sand Gnats (Low-A) and St. Lucie Mets (High-A). In 14 starts in Savannah, he went 6-2 with a 3.12 ERA. He walked just 11 in 78.0 innings. He was promoted to St. Lucie in late June and finished 2011 in the Florida State League. At High-A he went 5-4 with a 3.97 ERA. A native of Vancouver, Washington, he was originally drafted by the New York Yankees out of Hudson’s Bay HS (WA) in 2007, but did not sign.

LHP Ramon Garcia (0-0, ---) takes the mound for the first time in 2012 for the SeaWolves. The Dominican Republic native split time between Erie and the Toledo Mud Hens (AAA) last season. In 10 appearances (7 starts) in Toledo, he went 1-3 with a 3.92 ERA. The southpaw primarily worked out of the bullpen for the SeaWolves in 2011, making 23 appearances and logging 7 starts. Overall he went 3-3 with a 4.57 ERA in the Eastern League. In three games (one start) against the B-Mets last year, Garcia went 1-0 with a 1.17 ERA and allowed an opponents batting average of .233.

STRING OF DEBUTS: Greg Peavey’s start tonight marks the third straight game that a B-Mets starter makes his Double-A debut. Zack Wheeler lost his first game on Friday night, while Darin Gorski fired six shutout innings in his first game as B-Mets on Saturday afternoon.

DYKSTRA HITTING OUT OF THE GATE: B-Mets first baseman Allan Dykstra has hit safely in his first three games of the sea-son. Dykstra did not put together a three-game hitting streak with the B-Mets last season until late May (5/21-5/24).

MONDAY, MONDAY: The B-Mets went 8-6 on Mondays last year. It was the only weekday they had a winning record on.
