Daily Minors Report

Date: 4-18-12

AAA-Buffalo:

3B Zach Lutz line going in:  .364/.462/.591…  2B Bobby Scales enters the game ranked 2nd in IL in average (.444) and 3rd in SLG% (.722). Has 9-BB and only 1-SO in 47 plate appearances this season. His .556-OBP is 45-pts higher than anyone in the International League… Jordany Valdespin is (thank God) back to playing 2B…  3B Zach Lutz keeps raking, doubling in SS Bobby Scales in the 4th… Scales has now gotten on base twice a game for 10 straight games…

AA-Binghamton:

CF Matt den Dekker went into the game with a nine-game hitting streak… 3B Jefry Marte remains dinged with a strained hamstring… it’s Zack Wheeler vs. Deck McGuire gotta give Deck the credit, he shut the Mets down with one hit in 6.2-IP… Wheeler did it again tonight with another quality AA-start. t's going to be interesting to watch if he keeps this up and Jeurys Familia and Matt Harvey keep struggling at AAA.

A+ - St. Lucie:

Off day… OF Cory Vaughn is 9th in the league in BA (.333), 3rd in OBP (.450), 5th in slugging (.545) and 2nd in OBP (.995)… SP Chase Huchington – 12.2-IP, 0.00… Lucy leads the league in ERA (1.74) and 2nd in team WHIP (1.02).

A – Savannah:

The Sand Gnats first completed last night’s suspended game. Jack Leathersich pitched two more scoreless innings, keeping his seasonal ERA at 0.00…  Brian Harrison had his best professional game, going 4-5, and raising his BA to .239.  He smiled while telling me about it after the game:

"I felt like I've been hitting balls hard so it was nice to finally string some hits together. Even after a couple games where the hits weren't there, I made it a goal to stay positive and keep having a good approach up at the plate."

Charlie Thurber (.160) struck out four times in four at bats… the ‘nightcap’ featured a pitching duel between Rafael Montero and A.J. Holland  Montero pitched his best professional game: 6.0-IP, 0-R, 3-H, 0-BB, 7-K… for reasons unexplained, he was denied the opportunity to complete the 7-inning game.
