Ike the Tike

You all know my affection that I have for Ike Davis.

Obviously I think that he is going to be an above average offensive and outstanding defensive first baseman for years to come. However, Mr. Ike has the tendency to as Keith put it on television the other day "to bark at the umpire after every close pitch."

Now being a former player and current sports official, if an umpire has any chance to "get you back" they're going to.

Lets face it, umpires are human beings and as a human being, no matter how unbiased you're trying to be, subconsciously if somebody embarrasses you, you'd BETTER be swinging at the 3-2 pitch off the black. This is a game of inches and you NEED to fight for every inch that you can.

David Wright taking Ike aside after his strikeout on Saturday was a perfect example of Wright showing his leadership skills. I can only hope that after the game somebody pulled Ike aside and told him the SHUT THE @$(#  UP and play the game. He doesn't need to start getting a bad rap around umpires, hes too young and has too long of a career to be getting caught up with pissing off blue.
