LHP Josh Edgin promoted to Herd from Double-A Binghamton

April 23, 2012 –The New York Mets today announced that they have recalled Buffalo Bisons RHPJEREMY HEFNER. New York also announced that INF JORDANY VALDESPIN has been placed on their 24-hour Taxi Squad.

With the roster space, LHPJOSH EDGIN has been promoted to the Herd from Double-A Binghamton. C JEAN LUC BLAQUIERE has been promoted from Single-A Brooklyn.

Edgin, 25, has posted a 1.42ERA and two saves in six appearances with the Binghamton Mets this season. He has stuck out five in 6.1 innings of work and retired the first batter he has faced in all six of his appearances.

The Mets 30th round pick in the 2010 draft, Edgin turned some heads with a dominating spring training for New York. The southpaw made 10 scoreless appearances out of the Mets’ bullpen this spring, with 13 strikeouts and only four hits allowed in 10.1 innings of work. He also converted two of three save opportunities during the exhibition schedule.

Edgin was 3-1 with 1.91ERA and 27 saves in 49 appearances between Single-A Savannah and Single-A St. Lucie in 2011.

Blaquiere has not played yet this season. He was activated to the Bisons, April 14-15, when the Mets placed INF Josh Satin on their 24-hour taxi squad.

Hefner and Valdespin were both on the Bisons Opening Day Roster. Hefner was 2-1 in his three starts with a 1.96ERA -8th best in the International League. He was scheduled to start tonight for the Bisons in Lehigh Valley.

Valdespin has been the Bisons’ leadoff hitter in 17 of the club’s 18 games this year. He has hit .276 (21-76) with two home runs and seven RBI. Valdespin ranks 5th in the International League with 13 runs scored and leads all IL hitters with 76 at-bats.
