B-Mets Drop Rubber Match in New Hampshire,2-0

MANCHESTER,NH – The B-Mets scratched out just two hits and were shutout for the secondtime this season in a 2-0 loss to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats Wednesday nightat Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

Thegame was a battle of prospects as Zack Wheeler made the start for Binghamtonagainst right-hander Deck McGuire for New Hampshire. With the help of timelyFisher Cats hits, McGuire triumphed in the contest.

Wheelerturned in a solid performance in his third Double-A start. The righty fromGeorgia struck out six in his first three innings before allowing a run in thefourth. Mike McDade led off the frame by dumping a single to left field. Thefirst baseman advanced to second on a groundout and scored on Kevin Howard’sdouble to right centerfield.

Itwas the only run allowed by Wheeler in his six innings of work. Theright-hander struck out eight and walked two, but got no help from the offense.

TheB-Mets struggled to put solid contact on the ball against McGuire. The rightyhad just three strikeouts, but allowed only one hit in 6.2 scoreless innings.Binghamton threatened with two runners on base with one out in the second, butMcGuire struck out Josh Rodriguez and induced Juan Centeno to ground out.

Binghamtonwould not have another scoring chance until the seventh when Eric Campbellwalked to start the inning. Lagares traded places with him on a fielder’s choice,but was quickly erased by catcher A.J. Jimenez when he tried to steal second.

McGuire’snight ended after he walked Travis Ozga with two outs. Clint Everts enteredfrom the bullpen and allowed a single to Josh Rodriguez, but bounced back to strikeoutJuan Centeno, stranding both runners.

AfterEverts breezed through the eighth and the Fisher Cats added an insurance run againstEdgar Ramirez in the bottom of the inning, Ronald Uviedo took over in theninth. The righty issued a pair of walks, but induced Juan Centeno to pop outin foul territory to third to end the game.

Uviedoearned his fourth save with his scoreless ninth. McGuire picked up his first winand Wheeler was saddled with the hard-luck loss.
