TODAY’S GAME: Today, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Rochester Red Wings in the second game of a four-game set at Frontier Field (1:05 p.m.). The Herd opened the series with a 4-2 win to improve to 2-1 in its season-opening roadtrip. The Bisons split a pair of games in Pawtucket to begin 2012. The Herd will host Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in its Home Opener on Wednesday.

vs. WINGS: The Bisons picked up the victory in their first Thruway Series contest of the season. Rochester (2-1) started the race for the Thruway Cup with a pair of wins over defending champion Syracuse. Dating back to last season, the Bisons have now won eight of their last 10 against the Wings.

HEFNER DEBUT: RHPJEREMY HEFNER makes his Bisons debut this afternoon. The 26-year old was claimed off waivers (Pittsburgh) by the Mets on December 12, 2011. He spent all of last season with Triple-A Tacoma and was 9-7 with a 4.98ERA in 28 starts. Hefner has won nine or more games in each of the past four seasons.

BIRTHDAY BOY: OFVINNY ROTTINO celebrated his special day with a big day at the plate yesterday. The club’s newest 32-year old was in on all four Bisons’ runs as he drove home three and scored the insurance run in the eighth inning. Rottino finished the game 2-2 with a walk and has now produced back-to-back multi-hit performances.

12 FOR 12: The Bisons bullpen has begun the 2012 season with 12.0 scoreless innings. RHP FERNANDO CABRERA has earned a save in each of the last two games. The pen has also stranded five of six inherited runners. Last night, RHP JACK EGBERT came on with two men on base in the seventh inning and struck out back-to-back batters to get out of the inning.

BISONS BITS: OFJORDANY VALDESPIN made his first professional start at centerfield last night. He went 2-5 with two runs scored...The first three Bisons games in 2012 have been decided by two runs or less. Buffalo was 37-37 in those games last year...LHPJUSTIN HAMPSON made his 2012 debut with 1.1 scoreless innings. Hampson made 52 appearances with the Herd last year.

METS UPDATE: The Mets (2-0) also won by a 4-2 score on Saturday. New York pounded out 13 hits against Atlanta, including a pair of solo home runs from former Bison, OF LUCAS DUDA. OF KIRK NIEUWENHUIS also had two hits in his MLB debut. The Mets look for the series sweep today at 1:10 p.m. at Citi Field.
