Matt den Dekker Promoted to Buffalo Bisons

BINGHAMTON,NY – The Binghamton Mets are proud to announce outfielder Matt den Dekker hasbeen promoted to the Buffalo Bisons (AAA). The New York Mets made the officialannouncement Monday afternoon. The news caps a busy day for the Florida native;he was named the Eastern League Player of the Week early in the afternoon.

In his second year with the B-Mets, den Dekker departs the Southern Tier after twoimpressive months to start his 2012 campaign. Playing in all but two games, heleaves the club as the Eastern League leader in batting average (.340), hits(81), doubles (21), slugging percentage (.563), runs scored (47) and totalbases (134). He tied for the league lead in extra-base hits (33).

Selected in the 5th round of the June 2010 draft by the Mets out of the Universityof Florida, den Dekker split his 2011 season between the St. Lucie Mets(High-A) and Binghamton Mets (AA). He hit .296 in 67 games with St. Luciebefore being promoted to Binghamton in late June. Den Dekker hit .235 andslugged 11 home runs in 72 games as a B-Met last year.

Den Dekker ends his time with Binghamton on an eight-game hitting streak. Heearned league honors for hitting .630 (17-for-27) over his last six games, astretch that included four doubles, a triple, nine runs scored and four RBI. Healso hit safely in eight consecutive at bats during the stretch and became the firstB-Met since July 2011 to collect five hits in one game, going 5-for-5 against theTrenton Thunder on June 8.

After bidding their everyday center fielder farewell, the B-Mets (29-30) will beback in action Tuesday night to start a three-game series against the ReadingPhillies at 6:35 PM. LHP Mark Cohoon takes the hill against RHP JonathanPettibone. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pre-game show begins at 6:20 PM.

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE this move!!!!! I am hoping he lights AAA on fire and forces his way to the bigs before August is finished! I am not as worried about his strikeouts as some, because his power, speed and defense in CitiField will be incredible to watch! Great move!

don't like it at all...

too early... needs to work on K/AB and the fact he swings 90% of the time he has 2 strikes on him... lots of talent but impatient...

they should target him for CF 2014, not 2013
