Okay- someone shared with Mack that if the Mets are contending in late August, top prospect Zack Wheeler will be called up to the big league club. I don't believe it for ONE MINUTE!! Mack has some amazing sources, and they are right on these things FAR more then they are wrong.
~However, first, there's nowhere to play Wheeler- having him relieve would be a waste and would be the wrong tactic; second, his major league "clock" would be started late into this season, which would mean that his ability to file for free agency would be accelerated.
~Sandy & company are too smart to allow this to happen, and, on top of that, they will already have Mejia on the major league roster to start if necessary so having Wheeler skip AAA altogether and/or having him rushed to the bigs doesn't sound like the proactive strategies that Alderson practices. I hope I'm right and that this source is wrong...
