2013 Draft-Notes – Bob Ryan, Mitch Trees

Tyler Kepner‏ - No cheering in the press box? We made an exception at Fenway tonight. Standing O for Globe Bob Ryan on last night at Fenway before retirement

Jim Callis‏ -

Q – why did Mike Trout fall so much?

A - Teams didn't love him as much as they claim they did now. Hard to pin down NE players why did trout fall so much? I had the Angels taking Trout, albeit w/pick No. 24 rather than No. 25

Keith Law

Q - Could you envision Austin Meadows getting picked before Mark Appel?

A - He's one possibility - huge tools, kind of raw, apparently hasn't looked good against breaking stuff this summer. Ryne Stanek is the biggest competition for Appel in the '13 class so far, in my opinion

Mitch Trees, Catcher, Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin HS - Ranked No. 2 in Illinois’ Class of 2014 and No. 7 overall in the PBR coverage area, Trees is a physically impressive 6-foot-2, 190-pound athlete. He will serve as the defensive anchor for Team Illinois in the Prep Baseball Report Midwest Future Games on Aug. 4-5 at the University of Illinois. Defensively, Trees is the most advanced catcher we’ve seen in Illinois’ Class of 2014. He possesses extremely athletic feet, soft hands and arm strength (79 mph from the crouch). At the PBR Underclass Invitational, Trees delivered strikes on the glove-side of the bag, with top pop times of 1.93 and 1.97. His catching mechanics are advanced well beyond his age. For his size and strength, Trees is an impressive athlete, evidenced by his 7.29 60 and the fact that he was also a standout at third base, where he demonstrated concise lateral movements, clean footwork and arm strength (80 mph).  http://www.prepbaseballreport.com/news/IL/Midwest-Future-Games-Spotlight-Mitch-Trees-2436805971#.UAhgd_7EQhE.twitter

Keep an eye on Richmond Jr. RHP Andrew Brockett. Smallish frame, but has been 90-94 FB, very good CV this summer in CP League
