Another Tyler Pill QS

Tyler Pill tossed seven innings and struck out seven and Mike Baxter on a major league rehab assignment went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs with a run scored to lift the Mets to a 7-3 victory over the Brevard County Manatees on Sunday at Digital Domain Park.

Pill allowed just one run and four hits with two walks over a season-high seven innings to improve to 3-1.

The Mets jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI double from Cory Vaughn.

The Mets pushed across two runs in the second inning as Baxter ripped a two-run double to right to score Travis Taijeron and Danny Muno.

The Mets pulled away with a four-run fifth inning. Baxter scored from third base on an errant pickoff attempt with Vaughn at first. Richard Lucas drilled a two-run double to center to plate Vaughn and Blake Forsythe. T.J. Rivera added an RBI infield single to score Lucas to give the Mets a 7-0 lead.
Vaughn went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI while Muno finished 1-for-2 with a run scored and two walks.

Jeff Walters tossed 1 2/3 innings and allowed two unearned runs while issuing two walks and recording one strikeout.  Taylor Whitenton needed just one pitch in the ninth to record a one-out save for his third of the season.

The Mets host the Brevard County Manatees on Monday at 6:30 p.m. Yohan Almonte is the scheduled starter for the Mets.
