B-Mets 4, Baysox 3

The Binghamton Mets overcame two deficits, including one in the ninthinning, to defeat the Bowie Baysox in ten innings, 4-3, Thursday night atPrince George’s Stadium. Allan Dykstra drove in the game-winning run byskipping a two-run double down the first base line and Robert Carson struck outthree to collect the victory in relief.

Afterblowing a one-run lead in the eighth, the B-Mets desperately fought back in theninth. Trailing by one, the bottom of the order delivered against relieverChris Petrini. Jefry Marte started the rally with a single and Sean Kazmar puttwo aboard with a sneak bunt. Juan Centeno tied the game by threading an RBIsingle up the middle to force extras.

RelieverRobert Carson picked up two outs in the ninth inning and returned for the tenthafter Dykstra’s big hit. The lefty worked around a two-out single and posted ashutout inning, striking out Jonathan Schoop to end the game. The victory washis first since August 2011.

Thewild contest started in a relatively calm fashion with four scoreless innings.The Baysox drew first blood in the fifth against B-Mets starter Mark Cohoon.Manny Machado capped an eight-pitch at bat, by lining a double to left field.The speedy shortstop moved to second on Rhyne Hughes’ single to left and scoredwhen Caleb Joseph bounced into a double play.

Binghamtonwas kept in check through five innings by starter Rick Zagone, but responded innearly identical fashion in the top of the sixth. Reese Havens started theinning by floating a double over Robbie Widlansky in left field. Wilmer Floreswasted little time bringing him home by golfing an RBI single to left centerfield.

TheB-Mets took the lead against Zagone in the seventh. Jefry Marte shot a singlethrough the hole on the left side and moved to second on a sac bunt. After SeanKazmar flied out, Juan Centeno sent a ground ball up the middle. Second basemanJonathan Schoop fielded on the backhand cleanly, but his off-balance throw tofirst evaded Rhyne Hughes. As the ball rolled to the Bowie dugout, Martescampered home with the go-ahead run.

Theadvantage vanished in the bottom of the eighth. Cohoon kept the Baysox incheck, but allowed consecutive singles. After allowing a sac bunt, Brad Holtreplaced the lefty.

Withrunners on second and third, Holt fell behind on Jonathan Schoop in a 3-0count. Holt’s fourth pitch was intended to complete an intentional walk, butsailed to the backstop, allowing Caleb Joseph to score the tying run. Holtfollowed by bouncing a pick-off throw to first past Allan Dykstra, allowingAntoan Richardson to score the go-ahead run.

Thedamage nearly got worse later in the inning. With two outs, Josh Barfieldsingled to left. Schoop attempted to score from second, but was gunned down atthe plate by Eric Campbell. The play kept the deficit at one, setting the stagefor Binghamton in the top of the ninth.

Thecomeback win snapped Binghamton’s three-game losing streak. It was their thirdwin in extra innings and their first when trailing after eight innings. Carson(1-2) took the win, while Petrini (5-3) suffered the loss. Brad Holt wassaddled with his third blown save.
