Date: 7-17-12

MLB –

The Indians have released outfielder Trevor Crowe
Jon Heyman‏ -
Two weeks ago ben sheets was throwing at Georgia Tech. Sunday he beat Mets. fastball 90-91, very good curve. Nice job.
AAA – Buffalo:
Mike Harrington
Since the turn of the century, numbers have continued to drop. From 9,976 per game in 2000, the figure slipped all the way to 8,027 in 2009 when the Mets fielded their disgracefully 56-87 debut team in Buffalo. The average bumped up slightly to 8,219 per game in 2010, but dipped to an all-time low of 7,784 in 2011 and the total ticket count of 521,530 was the lowest in the ballpark's 24 seasons. Things have really dropped off this year, with an average of just 6,659 per date and a ticket count of 292,997 that leaves the team in danger of not reaching a half-million. The Bisons are on pace for their lowest total since 1986 at War Memorial Stadium -- two years before they moved downtown.  While the Mets have provided some good marketing and broadcast opportunities, this is an American League town and folks don't think the Amazins tried hard enough to put a winner in here until this year, when it might have been too late
RHP Matt Harvey takes the hill tonight for the 18th time this season. In his last outing, July 4 in Syracuse, the righty allowed just two runs on four hits in six innings of a 5-0 Chiefs win. Harvey leads the Bisons with seven wins and 102 strikeouts this season (2nd most in IL). The righty threw two hitless innings (2K) in the 2012 All-Star Game on Wednesday in Buffalo and was named the MiLB.com Top Star for the International League.
Tonight
Loss, 2-4
Sad.
I’m writing about Harvey and Mejia on another piece.
The Mets execs are in the stands, the game is televised for every scout to see… and Josh Satin bobbles the ball back on his original position. Jeez Louise...
Adam Loewen hit a very long home run.
It I hear one more time that Lucas May came into the game with a hitting streak, I think blood will come out of my ears. Don’t these announcers do any preparation past the publicity page they email out every day?
I have to move this on. I took an hour break to watch ‘The Newroom’ and I just took my sleeping pill.

AA-Binghamton:
LHP Darin Gorski (5-4, 3.89) makes his 16th start of the season and second against the Trenton Thunder. The Pennsylvania native has taken the no-decision in his last three starts. Gorski was eligible for the win in his last start against the Altoona Curve on July 9, but Adrian Rosario allowed two runs in the ninth inning to blow the save. Gorski allowed one run on five hits and struck out two. The lefty’s best start of the season came against the Trenton Thunder on June 9. He tossed a career-high eight shutout innings and never allowed a runner to reach third base.
RHP Mikey O’Brien (4-2, 3.88) makes his 11th start of the year for Trenton and first against the B-Mets. O’Brien was activated from the disabled list prior to the game after spending 11 days on the shelf with an ingrown toenail. He last pitched against the New Britain Rock Cats on July 4, allowing one run on three hits over six innings in a no-decision. The Virginia native started the season with the Tampa Yankees (High-A), going 4-1 with a 2.92 ERA in seven games (six starts) before getting promoted on May 18. Selected in the 9th round of the 2008 draft out of Hidden Valley HS (VA), O’Brien is in his fifth pro season.
Tonight
Loss, 5-6
2B Reese Havens (.216) hit his 8th home run.
Two more hits for Wilmer Flores (.349) who is making AA pitching look silly.

A+ - St. Lucie: -
Travis Taijeron’s combined stat line - .281/.395/.538 , 57-R, 16-HR, 54-RBI
Tonight – postponed

A – Savannah: -
The six-man rotation arrangement (which includes two side days between starts) appears to agree with Mets RHP Michael Fulmer, the 44th pick in last year's draft, who turned in two fine starts for low Class A Savannah this week and has been going strong for a month. As to the former charge, Fulmer surrendered just two runs on five hits over 12 innings against Charleston and Delmarva, while striking out seven and walking four. As to the latter, the 19-year-old carries a 1.15 ERA through his past five starts, during which time his average game score is a robust 67 - BA
Tonight –
Win, 9-8
The Sand Gnats run difference was created by a fielding error, a wild pitch, and another throwing error… how bout’ those Gnats bats!!!???

A-Low – Brooklyn:
Today
Win, 7-4
Dominican born, SP Hansel Robles had another QC – 5.2-IP, 1-ER, 5-H, 1-K, though he did have some trouble finding the zone (3-BB) – 2.36 for the season

“Almost-Prospect” Watch:

CF Brandon Nimmo – 2-5. 1-R, 2-doubles, .250
RF Eudy Pina – 3-5, 1-double, 2-RBI
1B Jayce Boyd – 2-4, 2-R, 1-BB, .275
SS Phillip Evans - -16, 1-R, .222

Rookie – Kingsport:
Today
Game 1 – W, 1-0
The big news was no rain.
The other big news was Savannah’s own SP John Gant: 5.1-IP, 0-R, 4-H, 6-K, 2-B.
RP Shane Bay added 1.2 more scoreless innings and game one was in the books.
OF Julio Concepcion, playing in his 6th year as a Met homered for the only run in the game.
Game 2 – L, 1-4

It’s just nice that this team got two games in.
I sort of mentally fell off the draft mountain after the 10th round this year. Maybe it was because I was once again so disappointed at the players picked, or it was the fact that I had to miss the opening bell due to a family commitment. Either way, two guys pitched this game that I didn’t even know were on this team. Someboy named Christian Laietner Chivilli opened up and Andrew Massie, who I wasn’t sure signed, ended it. Both meh-ly.
SS Gavin Cecchini’s bat is starting to wake up (2-hits, .280), but, as they’d say, he ain’t no Courtney Hawkins!
