Jacob DeGrom Throws Another Gem

Behinda strong outing from right-hander JacobdeGrom, the Gnats blasted their way by the Kannapolis Intimidators 8-1Tuesday night at Historic Grayson Stadium. The Gnats (14-18/55-44) smackedthree home runs to score as many as eight runs at home for the first time sincethe opening game of the second half, on June 21.

Savannah catcher Cam Marongot the scoring started by lofting a two-run homer over the rightfield wall inthe bottom of the third inning to put Savannah ahead 2-0. It was the fourthhomer of the year for Maron, who finished 1-for-3 with a pair of walks.

The Intimidators (13-18/46-55) scored their only run of the gamein the fourth against deGrom. Bill Ricesingled, advanced to second on a balk, stole third and came home on C Martin Medina’s single smashed past 3B Dustin Lawley.  deGrom kept the Gnats in front by strandingMedina at second to end the inning.

For the 7th time in his 13 Gnats’ starts, deGromfinished six innings. Tuesday, he set a career-high with nine strikeouts, whilewalking just one. If he had enough innings to qualify, his 2.47 ERA would leadthe South Atlantic League.

The Gnats put the game away late, thanks in large part to two homeruns from Dustin Lawley, his 12thand 13th of the year. In the sixth, he launched a solo shot to putSavannah in front 3-1. In the seventh, Lawley crushed a three-run homer to leftto finish the game’s scoring.

The Gnats will send RHP MichaelFulmer (5-5, 2.67) to the mound against LHP Matt Lane (3-3, 5.73) Wednesday at 7:05 pm. Gates to HistoricGrayson Stadium open at 6 pm.  The radiobroadcast presented by Subway, begins on News/Talk 630 and online atsandgnats.com at 6:45 pm
