“Captain America strikes again!”

Most baseball fans love two things in addition to the regular season. One of which is the All-Star game which symbolizes the mid-season classic of great baseball, hot dogs, and crackerjacks. Then of course the World Baseball Classic which now comes every four years which is happening right now as I type this for 2013. It’s something about cheering for your respective country and seeing it all transpire as we gear up for the start of the regular season that gives the world a brief preview of what’s to come. I thoroughly enjoy the WBC (maybe not the 6am games since they’re so early, but that’s for another editorial to write) as it brings legions of baseball fans together worldwide to showcase the talent from all four corners of the globe. One of which who has completely motivated Team USA and its fans is our hometown favorite, David Wright.

Nicknamed “Captain America” with tons of USA! USA! USA! Chants at almost every at-bat, he really has catapulted Team USA to being a force to reckon with in the WBC. His numbers are amazing with a solid .438 (7 for 16) batting average and 10 RBI’s, in addition to his pretty good defensive skills at 3B. Overall, this should be a glimpse of what the NY Mets season should look like as long as everyone is healthy and of course, the lineup/team is built around David Wright. He is our unspoken leader on the field and in the club, and if his Team USA performance is any indication of what’s to come, it’s going to be another strong season for Captain America.

Last night was a great game for Wright and Team USA with their 7-1 victory over Puerto Rico. Captain America drove in five runs and sealed another Team USA victory. There are still a few more games to play but I’m confident Wright will continue to thrive and hopefully lead this team to a world victory. This momentum should then follow through to that awesome April 1st Opening Day where we will finally see what this version of Captain America will bring for this season…….
