April 14th 2014 - Mets 7, Dbacks 3

Monday night in Phoenix,  Lucas Duda went 4 for 5 with 2 RBI and Zach Wheeler pitched strong into the 7th inning to earn his first win on the year, the Mets beat the Diamondbacks  7-3.  The Met offense came to life as they churned out 13 hits. The Dbacks took the lead in the bottom of the 1st. After that the Mets surged back tying the game in the top of the 2nd on an RBI grounder by Ruben Tejada. In the top of the 3rd an RBI ground out by David Wright and an RBI single by Duda gave the Mets the lead for good.  Eric Young Jr. and Daniel Murphy had 2 hits apiece for the Mets.  On the Mound Wheeler went 6 1/3 he allowed 6 hits 2 runs, both earned he walked 3 and struck out 3. He got the win he’s now 1-2. Carlos Torres pitched the final 2 2/3 allowing 1 run on 3 hits earning his 1st save on the year and 1st of his career. Josh Collmenter started and took the loss for the Dbacks he falls to 0-1. Miguel Montero had 3 hits and 3 RBI for the Dbacks. Murph and Curits Granderson also had RBI’s on the night, Wright, who capped the Mets scoring with an RBI single in the top of the 8th, had 2 RBI on the night as well.  Some unsettling news on the injury front. Both Granderson and Juan Legares left the game with injuries. Granderson collided with the right field wall in the 1st inning left the game in the 6th with contusions to his left wrist, rib cage and knee. Legares left the game in the bottom of the sixth with a hamstring issue.  All the x-rays on Granderson were negative.  With the win the Mets improve to 6-7 on the year and are now 4-3 on the current road trip. Tuesday night is game two of the series. Jenrry Mejia (1-0  4.09) goes for the Mets, Bronson Arroyo (1-0 4.82) goes for Arizona.
