April 20th 2014 -- Mets 4, Braves 3 (14 innings)

Curtis Granderson hit a game winning sac fly in the bottom of the 14th inning. The Mets salvage the final game of the three game series with the Braves 4-3. The Mets took a 1-0 in the top of the first thanks to a run that scored without benefit of a hit.  Eric Young reached second on a 2 base error by Justin Upton, advanced to third on a grounder by Granderson and then scored on a David Wright ground out.  In the 2nd inning Dan Uggla made an error on Zach Wheelers grounder to bring home Lucas Duda to make it 2-0 Mets. In the 5th a wild throw by Granderson led to a 3 run inning for Atlanta as the Braves took the lead.  Jayson Heyward drove in a run with an rbi double and then came home on the errant throw by Granderson.  Freddie “Met Killer” Freeman then doubled in the 3rd run of the inning.  The Mets tied the game in the 6th when a Duda fielder’s choice scored Wright.  In the bottom of the 14th Kirk Nieuwenhuis singled was bunted to second. Then after Eric Young Jr. was intentionally walked to get to Granderson, Gus Schlosser threw a wild pitch to make it 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. Granderson then hit the sac fly to left to win the game. Zach Wheeler started for the Mets and pitched into some bad luck. He went 6 innings allowing 6 hits, 3 runs (all earned) he walked 3 and struck out 6 getting the no decision. The Braves threatened in the top of the 7th but with 1 out with runners on 1st and 3rd Scott Rice got Freeman to hit into an inning ending double play.  Carlos Torres pitched a scoreless 8th and 9th innings. In extra’s Daisuke Matsuzaka was brilliant going 3 no hit innings striking out 5. But Jose Valverde who pitched the top of the 14th got the win he’s now 1-0. David Wright is getting hot, going 4 for 6 on the day. He’s now hit in 11 straight. Duda added a pair of hits as well.  The Mets are now 9-9 on the year and 3-6 at home. Monday night The Cardinals come to town to start a 3 game series. Jenrry Mejia  (2-0  2.81) looks for his 3rd win. Southpaw Tyler Lyons makes his first start of the season for the Redbirds.

Not sure what's funnier, Grandy being the 'hero', or valverde getting the win.......well, we'll take the win.

Another 0-fer for Curtis, though...o-fer Pete's sake. 13 for 107 going back into spring training. Get hot, Curtis!
