April 8th 2014 -- Mets 4, Braves 0

Tuesday night in Atlanta, the Mets offense showed signs of life, meanwhile Bartolo Colon pitched a gem as the Mets beat the Braves 4-0. The game was a pitching duel between Colon and former Met Aaron Harang. The only run of the game off Harang came in the top of the third when Ruben Tejada scored on a wild pitch by Harang. In the top of the 7th Off Gus Schlosser, Tejada blooped a single to right center to score Travis d’Arnaud who had doubled. Luis Avilan came in to spell Schlosser and Eric Young singled home Tejada with the Mets third run. Tejada came up big again in the top of the 8th driving in the Mets final run with an rbi single to right. The 4th run was set up Terry Collins challenging and winning a call that reversed a Juan Legares ground out to an infield hit. Colon was terrific going 7 , he allowed just 6 hits no runs he walked none and struck out 5. Kyle Farnsworth pitched a 1-2-3 8th inning. Jose Valverde pitched the 9th and had some trouble in the non-save situation. He allowed back to back hits by Justin Upton and Dan Uggla to start the inning. After a wild throw by Valverde the Braves had the bases loaded an one out. But Valverde got out of the jam and the Mets win. Colon gets the win he improves to 1-1. Harang was the hard luck loser going 6 innings, allowing just 2 hits 1 run, 1 earned he walked 4 and struck out 9. He falls to 1-1. The change of venues was a good for Travis d’Arnaud. The Mets rookie catcher got his first two hits on the season snapping his 0-16 start to the season going 2 for 4. Eric Young also added two hits and the rbi on the night. Tejada had 2 hits, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored . The Mets improve to 3-4 on the year. Wednesday night is game two of the series. Zach Wheeler (0-1 4.50) looks for his first win on the year, Ervin Santana makes his debut as a Brave.
