Binghamton 7 - New Hampshire 0

Rainy Lara faced just one over the minimum over seven shutout innings and the Binghamton Mets backed him up with three home runs in a 7-0 win over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Friday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. Brian Burgamy launched a pair of solo home runs to highlight Binghamton’s fifth straight win.


The two starting pitchers traded zeroes through the first three innings. Scott Copeland allowed just one runner to reach on a walk, while Rainy Lara needed just 30 pitches to cruise through the first three perfect frames.


Binghamton broke the scoreless game in the fourth. Burgamy teed off on 1 -1 pitch from Copeland, blasting his second home run in as many nights over the right-field wall. The solo shot gave the B-Mets a 1-0 lead.


Kenny Wilson finally reached against Lara with a single to start the fourth, but was erased when Lara picked him off. Ryan Schimpf followed with a two-out base hit off the right-field wall, but was gunned down trying to stretch the drive into a double by Cory Vaughn.


The B-Mets broke the game open in the seventh against the Fisher Cats bullpen. Matt Clark greeted reliever Tony Davis with a leadoff home run in the seventh, clearing the right-field wall for this second round-tripper in 2014. After a pair of walks, Xorge Carrillo threaded an RBI single to right, Wilfredo Tovar lifted a sac fly to right and Darrell Ceciliani capped the inning with a run-scoring single to center.


The lead was more than enough for Lara, who faced just one over the minimum. After surrendering two hits in the fourth, the right-hander retired seven straight. Jon Berti reached on an infield single in the seventh, but was left on second when Lara induced a pair of fly outs from Ryan Schimpf and Kevin Nolan.
Burgamy struck again in the eighth against Wil Browning. The third baseman launched his third home run of the series to start the frame. The B-Mets added one more run in the ninth off Gregory Infante.


Cody Satterwhite and Chasen Bradford each tossed an inning of shutout relief to make Lara (2-0) a winner. He allowed three hits, struck out three and issued no walks. Copeland (0-2) allowed just one run over six innings, but suffered the loss.


The B-Mets (6-2) continue their four-game set against the Fisher Cats on Saturday afternoon night at 1:35 PM. RHP Tyler Pill gets the nod against RHP Casey Lawrence. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show begins at 1:20 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
