Saturday April 5th 2014 -- Mets 6, Reds 3

Saturday afternoon in Flushing Ike Davis hit a pinch hit walk off grand slam…the Mets come from behind to beat the Reds 6-3. Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth…the Mets loaded the bases with the help of their first over turned call at second base on an Anthony Recker sacrifice. Ruben Tejada then walked to load the bases and then Ike Davis who was just demoted to the bench yesterday clubbed a 2nd pitch curveball over the right field wall for a walk off grand slam. Dillion Gee started for the Mets. Gee was strong the entire game and was coasting till the 8th inning.  In the 5th Ryan Ludwick hit a line drive homer to left off Gee to stake the Reds to a 1-0 lead.  Johnny Cueto started for the Reds and was nearly unhittable for 5 innings. In the 6th Curtis Granderson hit a two run homer to right to make it 2-1 Mets.  For Granderson his first homer as a Met. Cueto wen t 7, he allowed 5 hits, 2 runs both earned, he walked three and struck out 9.  Scott Rice relieved Gee in the 8th and retired Joey Votto and Jay Bruce to end the threat. Carlos Torres pitched the 9th as the  Met bullpen served up 1 2/3 of scoreless ball on the day. Torres benefits’ from the Davis walk off and picks up his first win on the year.  J.J. Hoover takes the loss he’s now 1-1- Well the predictions that the Mets would strike out a lot this season are true so far. In the first 5 games, the Mets have struck out a total of 53 times, they’ve also hit 7 homers 6 of which have come with runners on base. The Mets now stand at 2-3 on the young season. Sunday afternoon the Mets  go for the series sweep. Jonathon Niese makes his 2014 debut,  Alfredo Simon makes his season debut for the Reds.
