St. Lucie 6 - Fort Myers 3

For the second time in as many nights, Cam Maron delivered the go-ahead hit for the St. Lucie Mets against the Fort Myers Miracle.

Maron provided a dramatic 5-4 victory for the Mets with a walk off single in the bottom of the 10th. He belted a pitch from Tim Shibuya into right field that allowed Brandon Nimmo to score from second. Adam Brett Walker’s throw home from right was up the line and skipped away from catch Tyler Grimes.

On Friday, Maron broke a 3-3 tie in the eighth with a single and the Mets won 6-3.

The Mets have now won four in row after losing four straight, and they are above .500 with a 5-4 record. They are one game back of the Miracle and Palm Beach Cardinals for first place in the Florida State League South Division.

Saturday’s game was tightly contested with four lead changes and two ties. Michael Gonzales launched solo home run for the Miracle in the second. The Mets were able to tie it in the fifth on a ground ball out by Phillip Evans.

Maron gave the Mets the lead in the sixth. He smashed a 3-1 pitch from Jose Berrios over Walkers’ head in right field for a triple that plated T.J. Rivera. Maron scored moments later on a wild pitch to put the Mets up 3-1.

The lead looked like it would hold but Beck Wheeler could not escape the eighth. Wheeler retired the first two hitters but walked Jorge Polanco on a full count and gave up a single to Dalton Hicks. That brought up the go-ahead run in Adam Brett Walker, who drove a three-run homer over the left field wall to put the Miracle ahead 4-3.

The Mets quickly answered in their half of the eighth. Dilson Herrera and Nimmo singled  off of Steven Gruver, who was removed from the game. Herrera and Nimmo both moved up a base when Brian Gilbert came in and threw a wild pitch. After Rivera struck out, Aderlin Rodriguez brought home Herrera on a ground out to tie the game.

The 4-4 score held until the 10th when Maron came through in the clutch for the second night in a row.

Mets starter Michael Fulmer was impressive in a no decision. The righty held the Miracle to just Gonzales’ solo homer over seven innings. He struck out five.

Berrios also received a no decision. He gave up three runs in six innings.
