LAST GAME: The Binghamton Mets pounded out 16 hits in a 9-3 win over the Erie SeaWolves on Saturday at Jerry Uht Park. The B-Mets blew the game open with a five-run ninth inning. Jayce Boyd went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Dilson Herrera also had three hits. Kai Gronauer hit his first long ball with the B-Mets this season. Cory Mazzoni tossed seven innings and gave up  three runs on five hits. He struck out nine batters in the win.

BINGHAMTON STARTERRHP Hansel Robles makes his 17thstart of the season and second against Erie. The righty’s last outing was also against the SeaWolves. He threw five shutout innings of two-hit ball and struck out six in a 4-0 Binghamton win in game two of a doubleheader on Saturday, July 5. Sunday will be the third start for Robles against Erie. He’s 2-0 and hasn’t allowed a run in 12 innings, while striking out 11. That includes a complete-game, seven-inning shutout in game two of a doubleheader on June 14. The Bonao, Dominican Republic native was signed by the Mets as a non-drafted free agent on August 21, 2008.

ERIE STARTERRHP Warwick Saupold toes the rubber for the 18th time this season and the first against Binghamton. The Perth, Australia native is coming off back-to-back wins. He picked up the win in his most recent outing when he threw a complete-game in the opener of a doubleheader on Tuesday, July 8. He gave up four runs and struck out eight in the 8-4 Erie win. It was the second time this season that Saupold had gone the distance. The righty owns the fourth highest strikeout/9 IP ratio in the league. Saupold singed with Detroit in 2012.

BATTING AROUND: All nine Binghamton batters tallied at least one hit, on Saturday. That includes two three-hit games. The team totaled 16 base knocks on the night.  The team has hit double digits in that category in six of the last seven games. Three of those wins have been performances of 15 hits or more. The one game that was in the single digits in that stretch was a one-hit win.

BINGHAMTON BOMBERS: The B-Mets hit two more home runs on Saturday to raise it’s league-lead to 86. That’s five more than any other team. Three players have more than ten long balls on the season. With Kai Gronauer’s solo shot on Saturday, only one current B-Met batter is without a home run in 2014.

GIVING THEM A CHANCE: Cory Mazzoni gave up three runs in seven innings on Saturday was the sixth straight game that a Binghamton starting pitcher has allowed three earned runs or fewer. The B-Mets are 5-1 during that streak. Every starter has gone at least five innings in those games.

MR. MULTIPLE: Binghamton INF Dilson Herrera went 3-for-5 on Saturday. It was his seventh multi-hit game since joining the B-Mets on June 19. He’s managed at least three base knocks four times. Herrera had 23 multi-hit games with St. Lucie (High-A) in the first half of the season

TAIJERON KEEPS TRUCKING: Binghamton OF Travis Taijeron went 1-for-4 in Saturday’s win to extend his hitting streak to a season-high seven games. He’s hitting .387 (12-for-31) with four home runs during the streak and has raised his average by 21 points.

AROUND THE LEADERBOARD Binghamton has players all around the leaders in the Eastern League. Dustin Lawley ranks fifth with 16 home runs and is tied for fourth in extra-base hits with 36. Adam Kolarek is tied for fourth in games by a pitcher with 33 and has nine holds, good for the second in the league. Travis Taijeron is tied for second in doubles with 24 and fifth in slugging at .505.
