LAST GAME: The Binghamton Mets gave up three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning in a 6-5 loss to the Trenton Thunder on Thursday night at Arm & Hammer Park. Jack Leathersich gave up three runs on four hits in the seventh.Brandon Nimmo finished 3-for-5 with two doubles and a run scored. T.J. Rivera also managed three hits. Dilson Herrera tallied a hit in the seventh inning to extend his hitting streak to a season-high 12 games. Tyler Pill started for the B-Mets and tied a season-high with nine strikeouts in six innings.

BINGHAMTON STARTERRHP Matt Bowman makes his 16th start of the season and second straight against Trenton. In that last outing, the righty gave up five runs (two earned) and six hits in 5.2 innings . He took the loss in a 6-1 Binghamton defeat on Saturday, July 19. The start was the first for Bowman with the B-Mets since making two starts with Las Vegas (AAA). The Chevy Chase, Maryland native went 1-0 and allowed three runs in 9.2 innings. He has the ninth lowest ERA in the league and the third highest strikeout/9 IP ratio. Bowman was taken by the Mets in the 13th round of the 2012 draft out of Princeton University.

TRENTON STARTERLHP Dan Camarena makes his fourth start with the Thunder and second straight against Binghamton. The southpaw took the loss on Sunday, July 20. He gave up five runs on seven hits in 4.2 innings in a 5-2 B-Met victory. Camarena also struck out seven batters in the defeat. The 21-year-old hasn’t gone more than 4.2 frames in any start with Trenton. He made his first 16 appearances of the season with Tampa (High-A). Camarena went 5-5 with 2.35 ERA in those games. The Bonita, California native was taken by the Yankees in the 20th round of the 2011 draft out of Cathedral Catholic High School in San Diego.

K’S FOR DAY: Thursday’s starters Tyler Pill and Luis Severino combined to strikeout 16 batters in the series opener. The nine K’s ties a season-high for Pill. He also struck out nine on June 19 against Richmond. Severino now has 13 strikeouts in two games with the Thunder. Both of those have come against Binghamton. The teams rank first and third in the league in that category.

DILSON’S DOZEN: Binghamton INF Dilson Herrera went 1-for-4 on Thursday to extend his hitting streak to a season-high 12 games. This comes on the heels of an11-game stretch earlier this month. He has a hit in 23 of the last 24 contests. The 20-year-old has tallied at least one hit in all but four of his outings since joining Binghamton on June 19 and has gone hitless just once in the month of July. Herrera’s  hitting .358 since the first of the month with seven doubles, two triples and three home runs.


ROAD WOES: Thursday’s loss dropped the B-Mets to 26-25 on the road. The team have lost three of the first four on this road trip. This comes after Binghamton had won four of their last five away from the Southern Tier. Despite the road problems the B-Mets have one of the best home records in the league at 35-18.

KEEPING THEM IN IT: Tyler Pill’s six inning outing on Thursday marked the 21st straight game that a B-Met starter has gone at least five frames. That’s every game but one in the month of July.


CONTROLING THE LEADERBOARD: The B-Mets dominate the offensive numbers on the team leaderboard. The squad leads the league in home runs (99) and slugging percentage (.426). They are tied for first in runs with 540. Binghamton is also third in average with a .274 mark on the year.
