Bradenton Sweep St. Lucie

The Bradenton Marauders completed a three-game sweep of the St. Lucie Mets with a 4-1 victory on Thursday at McKechnie Field.

It was the first time this season the Mets were swept in a three-game series.

Marauders starter Jason Creasy was dominant over seven shutout innings. He only gave up four singles and did not walk a batter while striking out one. Creasy gave up two hits in the first but retired 19 of the last 21 batters he faced.

For the third straight game the Mets were not sharp in the field. They committed a season-high six errors. They made 12 errors in the series.

The game was scoreless until the fifth when Justin Maffei led off with a single against John Lannan. Raul Fortunato moved Maffei up to second with a bunt and Adam Frazier brought Maffei in with a double to make it 1-0.

Lannan went 4 1/3 innings and gave up four hits and one run.

The Marauders took a 2-0 lead in the sixth when Jin-De Jhang singled off of Seth Lugo and drove in Eric Wood.

The Mets came undone in the seventh. With two outs and the bases empty, Lugo walked Josh Bell after getting ahead with a 1-2 count. Jose Osuna singled to right and Eudy Pina over ran the ball. Pina then tried to recover and get Osuna at second, but his throw was errant and Bell scored on the two errors to make it 3-0.

Phillip Evans’ throwing error to first on the next batted ball by Jordan Steranka allowed Osuna to score to make it 4-0.

The Mets got on the board in the eighth on L.J. Mazzilli’s single that plated Maikis De La Cruz. However, reliever Ryan Hafner would settle down to strand two in the eighth and he retire the side in order in the ninth.

Mazzilli went 2 for 4 and extended his hitting streak to seven games.

De La Cruz went 2 for 3. - team press release
