Mets Minor League Report: July 20, 2014

MMLR Players of the Day: Savannah RHSP John Gant & Brooklyn RHSP Corey Oswalt.

Salt Lake (42-60) blanks Las Vegas (58- 44) 3-0.

Rafael Montero (L, 4-3) made his first AAA start since his stint on the DL: 4.0 IP, R, 5 H, 3 BB, 3 K.
Miguel Socolovich: 1.0 IP, perfect . (2 K)
Erik Goeddel: 2.0 IP, 2 R, 3 H, BB, 3 K.
Chase Bradford: 1.0 IP, 0 R, H, 0 BB, K.

With only 3 hits, the 51’s did not mount much of an offense.
Wilmer Flores (1-4) had a single to extend his hitting streak too 21 games.
Juan Centeno (2-3) had the only other hits for Las Vegas.

Binghamton (60-40) topped Trenton (46-55) 5-2.

Greg Peavey (W, 7-1) looked extremely sharp: 7.0 IP, R, 4 H, 0 BB, 7 K.
An unusual outing for Jack Leathersich, with no strikeouts. He was roughed up a bit, demonstrating that he is still human: 1.0 IP, R, 2 H, BB, 0 K.
Cody Satterwhite: (S, 8) 1.0 IP, 0 R, H, 0 BB, K.

Dilson Herrera: 1-2, 3B, 2 BB, R, SB. Still tearing it up, Herrera is hitting . 349.
Brian Burgamy: 2-4, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 2 R.
Dustin Lawley: 2-3, HR, 2B, BB, RBI, R. Should the Mets be buyers at the deadline, Lawley (with his 18 home runs and 21 doubles) could be a prime trade chip in the quest for a first rate hitter.

Tampa (47-52) trips St. Lucie (57-39) 4-1.

Luis Cessa (L, 6-6) was a victim of the long ball: 5-2 IP, 3 R, 6 H, (2 HR) 0 BB, 6 K.
Robert Coles: 1.1 IP, R, 3 H, BB, K.
T.J. Chism: 1.0 IP, 0 R, H, 0 BB.

Not much offense to speak of when 5 H and 5 BB are spread over the entire lineup. The only Met to have both a hit and a walk was:
L.J. Mazzilli: 1-3, HR, BB, RBI, R.

Game 1: Savannah (62-33) stomped Lexington (40-60) 5-0.

John Gant (W, 10-5) was superlative, pitching a 7.0 inning complete game, 1 hit shutout. (1 BB, 8 K)

Dominic Smith: 1-2, BB, RBI, R.

Brooklyn (17-19) wallops Williamsport (18-18) 6-0.

Jhoan Urena: 2-5, 2B, 2 RBI, R.
Michael Katz: 2-4.
Michael Bernal: 2-4, R.
Michael Conforto: 2-4, R. In just his 2nd pro game, Conforto has his first multi hit effort.

Hey Herb
Your minor league update was short two games...the Mets played like minor leaguers on both Saturday and Sunday...except our minor league teams mostly win. Lack of Met hitting highly disappointing.
Not to take away anything from Gant and Oswalt, but after their struggles, Ivan Wilson and Church also deserve stars with their games yesterday.

Smith should get no more "Stars of the Day" awards until he hits a homer. Who cares if he rakes doubles and has hit around .350 the past 3 months, he's holding out on us! Just kidding, he keeps going great.
