Yankees Silence Mets

The Tampa Yankees silenced the St. Lucie Mets 4-1 on Sunday evening at Steinbrenner Field.

The Mets were limited to just five hits. Their only run came on a two-out homer in the first inning from L.J. Mazzilli.

Aderlin Rodriguez hit a ground rule double later in the first but the Mets would go on to strand the bases loaded in the inning when Miguel Sulbaran got Gavin Cecchini to ground into a force out.

The Mets only had three singles and one walk the rest of the way. They stranded nine base runners and were 0 for 4 with runners in scoring position.

A trio of Tampa relievers - Jacob Lindgren, Brett Gerritse and Cesar Vargas - held the Mets to just one hit over four innings.

Sulbaran got the win, limiting the Mets to four hits and one run in five innings. He walked three and struck out four.

Dante Bichette, Jr. gave the Yankees the lead for good with an opposite field two-run homer over the short porch in right field in the fourth.

Eric Jagielo lined a homer just fair down the right field corner in the sixth inning to make it 3-1 and chase Mets starter Luis Cessa.

Cessa pitched 5 2/3 innings and struck out six while not walking a batter. All three runs he gave up came on the homers.

Danny Oh added an insurance run with an RBI single off of Robert Coles in the seventh.

The Yankees have now defeated the Mets four times in five games this season. - team press release
