LAST GAME: The Binghamton Mets used a strong outing by Rainy Lara to top the Harrisburg Senators, 3-1, on Saturday night at Metro Bank Park. Lara went 7.2 shutout innings and struck out four batters. Brian Burgamy went 2-for-4 with a two-RBI double and extended his hitting streak to a season-long 13 games. Dilson Herrera hit his seventh home run of the season in the first inning. Brandon Nimmo went 2-for-4 and scored a run. Cody Satterwhite gave up just one-unearned run in the ninth inning to pick up his 13th save of the season. Binghamton’s magic number to clinch a playoff spot is down to 10 in the Eastern Division.
BINGHAMTON STARTERLHP Steven Matz makes his ninth start of the season and first against Harrisburg. The southpaw is coming off of back-to-back losses. That includes his last outing when he allowed just one-unearned run in six innings and struck out seven on Sunday, August 3 against Bowie. The B-Mets lost the game 8-2. The game marked the sixth time since joining Binghamton that Matz has allowed three runs or less. The Stony Brook, New York native made his first 12 starts with St. Lucie (High-A). He went 4-4 with a 2.21 ERA was named a Florida State League mid-season All-Star. The 23-year-old was taken by the Mets in the second round of the 2009 draft out of Ward Melville Senior High School in East Setauket, New York.

HARRISBURG STARTERRHP James Simmons takes the hill for the 16th time this season and his tenth consecutive start. The righty is coming off a loss in his most recent outing. He allowed three runs on seven hits in 5.2 innings in a 3-2 Senators loss to Reading on Tuesday, August 5. He walked a season-high five batters in the game. Since becoming a starter on May 31, Simmons has gone at least five innings in eight of his nine appearances. He was tallied just 20 walks in 61.2 innings in 2014. Simmons stared the season with Oakland before having his contract purchased by Washington in May.

PUSH TO START: Last night’s performance by Rainy Lara continued a streak of seven straight fantastic outings by Binghamton starting pitchers. The unit has allowed three earned runs in the last 46.1 innings. The stretch includes 38 strikeouts and just six walks. They have not surrendered a home run in the last five games. Overall, B-Met starters have a 3.81 ERA on the season.

BURGAMY AT THE BAT: Binghamton INF Brian Burgamy went 2-for-4 on Sunday to extend his hitting streak to 13 games. He’s hitting .426 (20-for-47) in that time. It’s the second longest streak a B-Met batter has put together this season.Matt Reynolds holds the longest stretch at 14 games.

ROAD WARRIORS: With a win on Sunday, Binghamton would finish their six-game road trip with a 5-1 record. That includes a three-game sweep of Richmond to begin the trip. The team has outscored it’s opponents 21-10 so far and has allowed two runs or less in each of the last four games.

OH, OH IT’S MAGIC: The B-Mets saw their magic number to clinch a playoff spot drop to 10 on Saturday. The team has a 13 game lead for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Division. They are also just three games back of Portland for first place. Binghamton won the Eastern Division last season behind a franchise-record 86 wins.

POWER OUTAGE: After scoring 14 runs during the first two games of this road trip, Binghamton has tallied just seven total over the last three. The team is averaging more than five runs a contest this season and leads the league in runs scored.
