LAST GAME: The Binghamton Mets used seven-shutout innings from Steven Matz to top the Harrisburg Senators, 3-0,on Sunday afternoon at Metro Bank Park. Matz allowed just four hits and struck out five batters in the win. He hasn’t allowed an earned run in his last two outings. Brandon Nimmo went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI. Wilfredo Tovarput up a 1-for-2 performance with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Randy Fontanez shut the door with three strikeouts in two scoreless inning to earn his first Double-A save.

BINGHAMTON STARTER, GAME 1: RHP Greg Peavey is on the hill for the 15th time this season and the second time against Erie. The righty is coming off a win in his last outing. He tossed 6.2 scoreless innings and allowed just four hits in a 5-1 Binghamton win over Richmond on Tuesday, August 6. Peavey made his first appearance of the season against Erie. He gave up two runs in four innings and struck out three, but did not factor into the decision. The B-Mets won the game 7-2. The 26-year-old was taken was taken by the Mets in the  sixth round of the 2010 draft out of Oregon State.

ERIE STARTER, GAME 1: RHP Jeff Ferrell toes the rubber for the 22nd time this season and the fifth time against Binghamton. The righty took the loss in his last outing. He went seven innings and allowed three runs on five hits. He also tallied five strikeouts in the  3-1 SeaWolves defeat on Tuesday, August 6. In four previous starts against the B-Mets, Ferrell is 0-3 with an 8.10 ERA. The 23-year-old was taken by Detroit in the 26th round of the 2010 draft out of Pitt Community College (NC).

BINGHAMTON STARTER, GAME 2: LHP Angel Cuan takes the mound for the  eighth time this season and the first time since July 9. The southpaw has been on the disabled list since July 17 with a left shin contusion. Cuan tossed five scoreless innings and stuck out his five against in his last outing. Binghamton won the game against Portland, 6-1, on July 9. In his only other outing against Erie, the  David, Panama native gave up four runs (three earned) in six innings in a 5-3 B-Mets loss on June 15. He was signed bu the Mets as a non-drafted free agent in 2007.

ERIE STARTER, GAME 2: RHP Guido Knudson makes his 24th appearance of the season and his second start. The righty allowed one hit in two scoreless innings in his last outing on Thursday, August 7. Erie  won the game 3-2 in 13 innings. In three other games against Binghamton, Knudson has made one start. He’s 0-2 and has give up seven runs on 11 hits in seven innings. Knudson was taken in the 28th round of the 2011 draft by Detroit.

SO YOU’RE SAYING THERE’S A CHANCE: With a sweep in Wednesday’s doubleheader and a Portland loss, Binghamton would be in a tie for first place in the Eastern Division. The team hasn’t held that spot since April 17.

PUSH TO START: Sunday’s performance by Steven Matz continued a streak of eight straight fantastic outings by Binghamton starting pitchers. The unit has allowed three earned runs in the last 53.1 innings. The stretch includes 43 strikeouts and just eight walks. They have not surrendered a home run in the last six games.

THE SONG THAT NEVER ENDS: Binghamton and Erie matchup for the 17 and 18th time on Wednesday. The B-Mets lead the series 10-6 .It’s the last meeting between the teams in the Southern Tier. They wrap up their season series in Erie from August 18-20. The 22 meetings are more than the B-Mets play against any other team.
