D-Whit - It Was 45 Years Ago Today...August 10th 1969

August 10th

Nolan Ryan started but exited with an injury in the 2nd and then Don Cardwell (4-6) was called upon-and he delivered-pitching 4 shutout innings as the Mets blanked the Braves 3-0, taking 3 out of 4 at Atlanta Stadium. New York also won the season series 8-4.

Offensively Tommie Agee did most of the damage-doubling twice, scoring twice and crushing his 19th homer. Tug McGraw finished the final 2 2/3 of the whitewash, earning his 7th save.

A Cub lose to the Dodgers trimmed their lead over the 62-48 Mets to 7.5.
Next up is a three game set in the Dome and then back home to Flushing-kicking off a homestand with three against the expansion Padres.
