That Lupo walk number stands out. The ONLY sensible thing I ever heard Steve Phillips utter had to do with the development of power hitters in the minors. He said that when you see them demonstrate the ability to draw walks, it usually is a sign of pitch recognition and plate discipline that will eventually lead to getting pitches to drive and that is when they start to take off. It may be frustrating and take some time, but it is a vital part of development for future big leaguers. This is the reason why the talent evaluators preferred Duda over Ike, even though his approach had not yet paid dividends. Lupo actually followed this approach in DSL where he preceded his breakout year down there with a crazy amount of walks. Pitch recognition and plate discipline are the hardest elements of this game to teach, so hopefully he has something that will eventually translate into powerfully batted balls.

Hey Anon, I hear you with Lupo. He has shown real signs of life of late. Something is starting to click. It is a shame to short seasons are so short. Lupo was playing part time and has had something like 100-120 plate appearances, and the season will be over in a few weeks. More time, more progress.
Wilson continues to launch homers when he does not strike out. Can he fix that flaw? Hope so...power bat looks real.
