Verrett is the guy who gets left out of Met pitcher future composition discussions, but 9-4 and a gem like that definitely shows he is a valuable pitcher in the Met's org.
Maybe they left Dekker in Vegas to try to win the batting titie. Red hot.
Good to see Meisner coming around, and hopeful signs of life for Vicente Lupo, with him getting on base 3 times.

Verrett is hard to figure out, but if amounted to decent back up for rotation or a useful BP piece, it would enhance the existing riches. also, German has been very solid since being demoted after coming off DL. As much as this team has stockpiled rotation arms, it is also building a nice inventory of arms that could help the other side of the staff. I am all for upgrading SS and LF (if not 2B if DM gets moved) but I am not convinced that All Stars are necessary for this team to really compete. significant upgrades, without giving up Crown Jewels, I believe give this team a legitimate chance to compete if the monster rotation is kept and a lock down Pen is completed. I have no idea about the Cuban Tomas and I worry that it will be the Mets who find the well dry when they draw from it (like Matsui) but I prefer to try him (or other internals) in LF next year and one of the secondary SS available via FA next year. yes, the offense has held this team back this year, but the pitching is likely to be far superior next year when you have Harvey back, Thor up, Wheeler/deGrom full season under belt and a lock down Pen from day 1 of the season. all of that alleviates a bit of the pressure on the offense and defense becomes that much more important. it is not about saving money, it is about keeping talent.

Thomas, my guess is they chose Kirk over MDD since they are replacing Abreu, who was a pinch hitter/5th OF role, so won't get much playing time, which Kirk has been a part of before. This was MDD doesnt get the TC ice down effect since he'll just sit on the bench in favor of CY. I wouldn't even mind if they let EY play everyday since he can actually make the Mets more dynamic woth his plus speed, C y brings nothing to the table. Once they finally move on from CY, then bring up MDD and have him get some abs, but I agree with leaving him in Vegas to go after a hitting title, which is going to be difficult since Andy Marte just got called up, so his avg is going to stay at .330, to whereas den Decker has to pick his avg up a few points and stay there, basically needs to go 1-3 every day from here on ou.

Verrett, just keeps winning and throwing his name into the hat for a potential trade chip or pen arm, but he doesn't have any plus pitches, just plus control. Usually everyone throws Dillon Gees name around when we see a guy like this who has shown some success, with limited velo, off speed pitches, so who knows.

Also, I get worried when I don't see Dilson Herrera getting 2 hits every time I read this minor league report, thankfully Bingo was off since I was nervous for a second, Phew!!

It is nice to have a Verrett, good enough it appears to perhaps be a Gee, and on this team a trade chip most likely.

As it looks less likely any playoff run is in the offing, I'd DFA the two Youngs and bring up Dekker and Brown for the rest of the year to platoon. Dekker has been .395/.475/.656 in 43 games since demotion, and hits righties better than lefties. Brown has cooled, but hits with real power and much better vs. lefties. Platoon right there - don't try to hit Dekker vs. lefties - that's the only reason why I'd also recall Brown. I honestly think Matt would do OK against righties, and he has the glove, man. See what you got. Then you know what to get (or not get) in the off season.

If you don't find out now, you may sign some guy for 5 years, $80MM who may become a huge $$ bust by year 2. Mets like cheap, see if Dekker is Duda II.
