The Sunday Hot Stove Update

The folks over at MLBTR are predicting that 28-year old SS Asdrubel Cabrera will snag around a 3-year, $27mil contract this year in free agency. All this for a guy that averaged 20-HR, 80-RBI, 778-OPS in Cleveland during 2011-12, but only 14-HR, 62-RBI, 697-OPS in 2013-14 for the Nationals.

Victor Martinez will decline a qualifying offer from the Tigers and will pursue a 4-year deal via free agency.

Tampa Bay will shield OF prospect Mikie Mahtook from the Rule 5 draft.

We all know that Arizona has too many infielders and not enough starters… well, prospect pitcher Archie Bradley has a solution for that. Him! The number one Diamondback prospect wants everyone to know that anything less than a Major league rotation slot in 2015 won’t do. He’s past the strained elbow flexor mass injury that shelved him in 2014, so don’t expect Arizona to be looking to solve all their pitching needs from outside their organization this off-season

One player the Red Sox are keeping an eye on this off season is Cuban outfielder Rusney Castillo, who is currently listed as day-to-day with a bruised thumb.

Long time Chicago White Sox scout, Paul Provas, died last Thursday from brain cancer. He was 63.

SS Addison Russell was shut down after Thursday’s AFL game… he’s healthy and just shut down in ‘best interests’
