Mets Minor League Games - 7-3-15

Minor League Player of The Night - Scarlyn Reyes

Honorable Mention - Ivan Wilson, Vicente Lupo

AAA - Las Vegas - (46-36) 7 - Tacoma (41-41) 12

    RHSP Rainy Lara  - 4 IP, 10 H, 7 R, 2 HR, 6.75 ERA.

It may not have been a rainy night in Georgia, but it was a Rainy night in Tacoma.

Rainy Lara gave up two home runs and allowed seven runs in four innings. He may long for the days back in Binghamton.  Jenrry Mejia struck out the side but allowed a run, and Vic Black got clobbered and has a 15.88 ERA in his endless come back effort, effectively sealing the loss.

Castellanos (.307) had a home run and another extra base hit (now 45) and keeps making the case to be called up. Anthony Recker hit his 6th home run, but going 1-5 and striking out 3 times.  Matt Reynolds DH'd again, apparently with a sore elbow, and had two hits and three RBIs in the loss.

AA - Binghamton - (40-39) 2 - Erie (31-48) 3

    RHSP Michael Gibbons  -  6.1-IP, 4-H, 3-R, 3-K, 1-BB, 4.21

The 2015 journey of Michael Gibbons continues in its interesting fashion.

After making his minor league debut with Saint Lucie a few weeks ago, brilliantly in fact, he then tossed a few outings in Brooklyn, and last night hopped all the way up to AA, and threw quite well, thank you, despite taking the loss.

10 hits, but the Mets fell a run short.

First rounder update: Gavin Cecchini 1-5, .278. Michael Conforto 2-4, RBI, .333.  Brandon Nimmo 144, RBI, two strikeouts, .289.

A+ - St. Lucie - (40-39) 6 - Jupiter (39-40) 5

    RHSP Casey Meisner  -   5.2-IP, 6-H, 5-R, 4-K, 3-BB, 2.84

The Mets staked Casey to an early 5-0 lead, and held on for the close win. Jeff McNeil did in fact start at shortstop and had a hit and two RBIs. Dominic Smith (.303), Colton Plaia, (.279), and Phil Evans had two hits apiece in the victory.

A - Savannah - won the first, lost the second, in a twin bill. Savannah move to 41 - 37 with the split and Augusta slipped to 39-39.

    Game 1  -  RHSP Matires Arias  -  6.0-IP, 4-H, 3-R, 4-K, 4-BB, 3.21

                       SS Luis Guillorme  -  2-3, 1-R, .302, SB (11).

                       RF Wuilmer Beccera  -  1-3, double, .286

The starter was the tough luck loser in a close, low scoring affair.

    Game 2  -  RHSP Starlyn Reyes  - 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 12 Ks, 3.20

Reyes was brilliant tonight in the second game of a doubleheader. Those are reminiscent of Pedro Martinez #'s.

Never-say-die Vicente Lupo had a superb game, with a triple, home run, two RBIs and a walk.  Michael Katz was 0-3 with three strikeouts in his Savannah debut.

Low-A  -  Brooklyn - (9-5) 1 - Hudson Valley (7-7) 4

    RHSP Nicco Black  -  5.0-IP, 2-H, 3-R, 3-K, 2-BB, 4.70

    RHRP Corey Taylor  -  1.0-IP, 0-H, 0-R, 0-K, 0-BB, 0.00

    RF Michael Bernal  -  1-2, double, .318

Black pitched reasonably well, but took the loss, as Brooklyn's bats were sleepy. Vince Sienna (.388) had a hit and the lone RBI for Brooklyn.
Rookie -  Kingsport - (5-6) 4 - Burlington (7-4) 7

    RHSP Harol Gonzalez  -  6 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 2 W, 2 K, 3.42

Kingsport took a 6 - 0 lead into the 6th inning. Gonzales gave up four runs in 6th, and Eusebio Arias surrendered 3 runs in the seventh. Catcher Pat Mazelka was 2-2, walk, a double and an RBI and is hitting .342.

GCL -  Mets (6-4) 7 - Nats (5-5) 4

    RHSP Merandy Gonzalez  -  5.0-IP, 4-H, 3-R, 7-K, 1-BB, 3.00

Mack - Gonzalez is 19 years old

    RHRP Blake Taylor  -  2.0-IP, 3-H, 2-R, 3-K, 0-BB, 6.00

    CF Ricardo Cespedes  -  2-5, 1-R, double, 1-RBI, .281

Mack - Cespedes was a big time international bonus baby signing in 2013 with a $725,000 bonus.

Two struggling hitters went deep. Ivan Wilson (.125) hit a grand slam and Franklin Correia (.118)  also went deep.

Rookie - DSL 1 (17-13) 8 - Dodgers (14-16) 7

    RHSP Luis Mateo  -  5.0-IP, 3-H, 3-R, 3-K, 3-BB, 4.56

    2B Edgardo Fermin  -  3-3, 2-R, .241

    1B Domingo Martinez  -  2-4, 1-RBI, .302

In a back and forth affair the Dodgers scored three runs in the 9th inning to take a 7-6 lead. The Mets rallied for 2 in the bottom of the ninth with struggling Edy Gil driving in the game winner. As luck would have it, the guy who surrendered the three runs in the ninth and blew the lead got the win.

Rookie - DSL 2 - (17-13) 6 - Rangers (16-14)  4

    LHSP Anuery Olivo  -  4.0-IP, 6-H, 3-R, 4-K, 1-BB, .227

    RF Grabiel Jimenez  -  2-5, double, 1-RBI, .347

    SS Kenny Hernandez  -  1-5, 1-R double, 1-RBI, .112

Mack - Watch out world... the 2014 million dollar bonus baby is hitting above .100 now.

GOATS: Rainy Lara and Vic Black

Lupo had a great game but didn't hit a home run.
