2013 Draft-Notes – Dylan Covey, Ryne Stanek, PG/WWBA 18u National Championship, Kolin Conner

Dylan Covey, RHP, Orleans (San Diego) - 91-93 with the FB. CB had tight spin but broke early and was a bit loopy. CU had some drop in warm-ups but didn’t feature much in game (short relief outing). Has some natural deception to his delivery that makes him hard to pickup. Quality stuff. Landed on a stiff front leg and loost his release point a few times... causing him to leave a few pitches up.  BB

The development of  Arkansas’ right-hander Ryne Stanek has really been something to see. He was mostly 93-95, but popped 96 a few times in the first inning with plenty of life on the heater. The slider was mostly plus, though here and there the pitch had a tendency to be a bit short. The changeup continues to look like a potential out pitch, and he commanded it better than I’ve seen in person before. If I had to make odds for the first pick right now, Ryne Stanek would be right at the top. MLBDI

Jim Callis – Q – Will The Pirates sign P Mark Appel?

A - Still think they'll offer him close to $4 mil & his best move will be to sign.

Kolin Conner (Dubois County--St. Joseph) had quite a night yesterday. He went 2 for 4, with a grand slam and a double on the night. He finished with seven runs batted in and two runs scored. He is now among the league-leaders with 27 runs batted in this summer. CSB
