April 12th 2014 - Mets 7, Angels 6 (13 innings)

Anthony Recker homered with no outs in the top of the 13th inning, the Mets beat the Angels in extra innings 7-6. The Mets lead 6-3 going into the bottom of the 9th. But with 2 out and 2 on Raul Ibanez took  a Jose Valverde delivery deep into the right field stands to send the Mets and Angels into extra innings for the 2nd straight night.  Recker was the star of the game, his two out single to center scored Lucas Duda and Juan Lagares with the go-ahead runs in the top of the 7th inning. The Mets tied it in the top of the 2nd on Lucas Duda’s solo shot his 3rd homer on the year. In the bottom of the 5th inning Chris Iannetta connected for a solo shot off Jon Niese to make it 2-1, in the bottom of the 6th former Met Collin Cowgill hit a solo shot of his own to make it 3-1 Angels. The Mets took the lead in the 7th scoring three times off Jared Weaver.  Legares  brought home Curtis Granderson with an RBI single and set up Recker’s go ahead hit in the 7th.  The Angels took the lead in the bottom of the 1st when Cowgill singled, moved to second on Mike Trout’s ground out and was brought home by an RBI single by Albert Pujols.  Omar Quintanilla’s two run single in the top of the 9th gave the Mets a seemingly safe 6-3 lead, but Ibanez erased that lead with one swing in the bottom of the inning. Jon Niese went 7 1/3 strong, he allowed 6 hits, 3 runs, all earned he walked 1 and struck out 5. Niese gets the no-decision. The Mets shut down the Angels in extra innings not allowing a base runner after the game tying homer.  John Lannon got the win pitching a scoreless 12th and 13th innings he’s now 1-0.  The Met Bullpen pitched 4 scoreless innings in the extra frames. Duda and Lagares both had a pair of hits on the night. Quintanilla had 3 hits in his spot start. Lagares has now hit in 9 of the 10 games he’s started and 7 straight games and has 3 multi-hit games on the season.  Recker went 2 for 5 with the homer and 3 rbi.  The Mets now stand at 5-6 on the year and 3-2 on this road trip. Sunday afternoon is the rubber game of this three game series.  Bartolo Colon ( 1-1  2.08) goes for the Mets, C.J. Wilson (1-1  4.61) goes for the Angels
