The Mets
will begin to quietly throw in those white towels they’ve been waving. No,
there won’t be any big announcement because Sandy
Alderson can’t stand up in front of a microphone and admit that there
never was any short range plan.
Sure, he said the future of whether or not the team is a 'buyer' or 'seller' will be determined in the 'next 10-12 days' but the front office knows what direction they are going in.
He bought three players last off-season with the limited amount of money his bosses gave him and he will buy even less this year. This has always been a long range plan that Alderson had a 2016-2017 target painted on it and everything he has produced via trades has gone in that direction.

Matsuzaka and Bobby Abreu will go as Marlon
Byrd and John Buck did last year. Both
will probably be traded for two (one each) 2016-2017 ETA prospect. Alderson
never told anyone this, but his agreement with the Wilpons has always been to
build a team he would be proud of… in 2016-2017. He can not afford to ignore any return for both Dice-K and Abreu, no how small or distant those prospects are.
I’m sure
there will be a week or two spent shopping Chris Young,
but I can’t see this going well. My hopes is he will fall off the back of the
sports pages and disappear via a DFA followed by a full release. Everyone will
quickly forget the $7mil. It’s not like it was our money.
His largest
trading chip is 2B Daniel Murphy and it may be
very hard for him to not be sold off. Murphy would most probably attract two
prospects, at least one that could walk right into a starting position at LF,
SS, or even 2B. It makes sense if you’re Alderson. You wind up with a couple of
future players for someone that is going to leave you anyway via free agency in
a year.
The ‘future’
Mets look more and more like a pitchers team backed by solid defense and timely
hitting. No, the final pieces for that defense are not in the lineup yet.
As I
mentioned, Alderson’s plan was to have ‘his team’ in place by the 2016 season;
however, he must first tackle 2015. The first question is whether or not he
will remain as the General Manager, a decision that will be made in the
off-season.
There is some
movement expected in 2015. C Kevin Plawecki is
blocked by Travis d’Arnaud, and IF Wilmer Flores will still be looking for a position to
play. Only SS Matt Reynolds could be added to
the SS mix and both 2B Dilson Herrera and OF Brandon Nimmo should be ready by the mid-season.

I agree we will soon forget Chris Young. I had not given one ounce of thought, for instance, about Jordany Valdespin in months, until today for some unknown reason (my brain works very randomly!) but he was all over the sports pages last year. Release Chris Young and he will be forgotten quickly

JV1 is back in AAA with the Marlins.
With CY, if we keep saying he's going to be released in the next couple of days, he'll keep hitting home runs. His problem seems to be motivation.

Chris Young looks motivated every pay day - that's about it. Wet those towels, you teammates, and snap them at him, he may leave voluntarily.
I see the best move for CY being a DFA and a stretch in Vegas. Maybe he can find his stroke there and have trade value or be able to return to Queens in August or September. Yes, he'd have to agree, but why wouldn't he?
