Pitchers Pinch Portland in Doubleheader Sweep

BINGHAMTON, NY – The Binghamton Mets surrendered just one run in a doubleheader sweep of the Portland Sea Dogs on Wednesday night at NYSEG Stadium. The B-Mets compiled a 10-hit attack and Angel Cuan tossed five scoreless innings in a 6-1 win in the opener. Gabriel Ynoa fired a complete-game shutout in game two to lead the B-Mets to a 1-0 victory. The sweep moved Binghamton to within five games of the first-place Sea Dogs in the Eastern Division.

GAME ONE - B-Mets 6, Sea Dogs 1
The B-Mets got on the board in a hurry against Binghamton University product Mike Augliera. Brian Burgamy launched a 1-0 pitch over the video board in right field to put the home team on top, 1-0.
The score stayed that way until the fifth. With one out, Xorge Carrillo singled. The next batter, Brandon Nimmo, hit the gap in right-center field for a double, moving Carrillo to third base. Dilson Herrera skipped a single up the middle to bring both runners home. He stole second during the next at-bat and moved to third on the throwing error by the catcher, Blake Swihart. Dustin Lawley capped the big inning with a home run over the left-field wall to make the score, 5-1.
Binghamton added an insurance run in the sixth. Jayce Boyd hopped the right-field fence with a ground-rule double to lead off and moved to third on a ground out. Travis Taijeron singled to left-center field to plate the runner and extend the home team’s advantage to 6-0.
The Sea Dogs got a run back in the top of the seventh against Ryan Fraser. Michael Almanzar hit a pitch over the right-field wall to score the only Portland run of the game and cut the deficit to 6-1.
Cuan (3-4) tossed five scoreless innings of three hit ball and struck out five in his first start since missing 19 games on the disabled list. Mike Augliera pitched a complete-game seven innings and gave up six runs on ten hits. Jon Velasquez tossed a scoreless frame, while Ryan Fraser allowed just the one run to nail down the win.

GAME TWO - B-Mets 1, SeaWolves 0
In the night cap, the B-Mets were carried by Gabriel Ynoa in just his second Double-A start. The 21-year-old threw a complete-game shutout and struck out eight. He allowed four hits, scattered over three innings.
Binghamton scored the one and only run they needed off of Mike McCarthy in the second. T.J. Rivera and Brandon Nimmo each walked to put two on with one two outs. Rylan Sandoval laced a single to right field that brought home Rivera for the 1-0 advantage.
Ynoa (1-0) allowed just five base runners in the win. McCarthy (8-4) threw four innings and allowed the one run to take the hard-luck loss.
