Trenton 6 - B-Mets 1

The Binghamton Mets were held to just three hits and shutout over the final eight innings in a 6-1 loss to the Trenton Thunder on Saturday night at NYSEG Stadium. Trenton starter Luis Severino surrendered just one run over five innings to collect the win in his Double-A debut. Dilson Herrera extended his hitting streak to seven games in the loss.

Binghamton scored its only run in the first inning against Severino. Brandon Nimmo walked to lead-off the frame and moved to third on a Herrera single. After back-to-back strikeouts, T.J. Rivera singled up the middle to plate Nimmo for the 1-0 B-Met advantage.

The lead was short lived, though. In the second against Matt Bowman, Tyler Austin walked and Mason Williams reached on an error by the shortstop, T.J. Rivera. Dan Fiorito tallied a base-knock to load the bags and Casey Stevenson brought two runners home on a single to give Trenton the lead. Ali Castillo reached on a fielder’s choice, Fiorito scored on the play to make the score 3-1.

That lead grew in the sixth. Tyler Austin doubled to ignite the rally with nobody out. Williams then reached on an error by the second baseman, Dilson Herrera. Fiorito the doubled home both runners to make the deficit 5-1.

The Thunder added on more insurance run in the eighth. Austin singled to lead things off against Hansel Robles. A walk and a single loaded the bases for Stevenson. He responded with a sacrifice fly to centerfield to score a runner for the 6-1 lead.
